Rockstar did not develop these remasters internally, but instead handed them off to a studio called Grove Street Games, who'd previously mostly worked on ports for mobile platforms. The game was riddled with bugs, visual issues, and uncanny character model reworks. Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition originally launched in 2021 to near-universal criticism. It would likely only behoove Rockstar to have the game available on as many platforms as possible, as it seemingly still has a very negative perception attached to it. If the January 19 date is to be believed for Epic Games Store, it could be that this title will release on Steam the same day as well. It would appear Rockstar is finally allowing The Definitive Edition trilogy to make the jump to other PC platforms, as a report back in November revealed that info for the game had been popping up in Steam databases. This remaster collection is already available on PC, but it's currently only playable via the official Rockstar Games Launcher. They also stated that it's releasing with a sale, which will make it 50% cheaper for one week following its launch. A Twitter user by the name of billbil-kun, who's well-known for accurately leaking the monthly games that are given out at no additional cost to PlayStation Plus Essential subscribers, and who also has a history of leaking Epic Games Store's free titles, recently claimed that Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition, the externally developed remaster collection of the iconic PS2-era GTA trilogy, is coming to Epic Games Store on January 19.
